Silas James Vartanian is a working class New Jerseyan. Being born and raised in Jersey City, Silas learned how cold and ruthless life can be. Never one to complain Silas takes life one day at a time. Silas graduated from Dr. Ronald E. McNair Academic High School in 2005 and was shortly after married to his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Gilpatrick. Wasting no time, nine months later baby Abigail was born. Silas had a quaint little house on 66 Thorne st., a solid and well paying job at Hudson generating station, life was good for a long while.
It all came crashing down for Silas in December 2011. Driving home from work, he called his wife as he always had everyday since he could remember. Jacqueline was on her way home with Abby from school. Silas heard her pick up, then a thud, disconnect. He tried calling a few more times then he got a call from the Jersey City P.D., both Jacqueline and Abby were gone. The funeral was a blur for Silas as were the weeks and months following. Silas had started to drink heavily and it effected his work performance so much that in December 2012 he lost his job at the power plant. At this point, a year to the the day he called his wife, Silas realized a change had to be made.
Silas started applying for jobs out of state. The furthest offer he got was from a retirement home in Urbana, IL. as a groundskeeper. Having done tree work and landscape construction for an apprenticeship in high school, Silas took the job, hoping to escape the pain in the town where he had lost everything. He found residence quickly on 352 Wallace Avenue in Champaign, IL. Silas now sits at his new home in Champaign awaiting his first day of work the next day.
